Rung Terminal Docs

Install

Download, first launch, and what each platform asks of you on the way.

Windows

Requirements

Download

  1. Download RungTerminalSetup.exe.
  2. Download SHA256SUMS.txt next to it if you want to verify the file.

Open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run Get-FileHash .\RungTerminalSetup.exe -Algorithm SHA256. Compare the result with the line in SHA256SUMS.txt. If they differ, delete the file - do not run it.

Install

Double-click RungTerminalSetup.exe.

Windows will show a blue "Windows protected your PC" panel the first few times. This happens to every new application that has not yet built up SmartScreen reputation. Click More info, then Run anyway.

The installer never asks for administrator rights. It installs into your own user profile, adds a Start-menu entry, and registers an uninstaller under Apps & features.

Where your data is kept

Everything is local, under your Windows user profile:

Removing the program does not remove the vault. See Troubleshooting for the exact paths and how to remove them.

Updating

An installed terminal keeps itself up to date. New releases are downloaded quietly in the background and installed the next time you start it, so nothing is ever replaced while you are trading and you are never interrupted to approve one. Your vault, settings and layout are untouched.

Every download is checked against a signature from the release key before it is allowed to run. A file that fails that check is discarded, not installed.

To turn this off, open Settings and set Keep this terminal up to date to Off. Then update by hand whenever you like: download the new installer and run it. It replaces the old version in place. Close the application first

Uninstalling

Apps & features -> Rung Terminal -> Uninstall.

Your vault, settings and market cache are deliberately left behind. A wallet vault cannot be recovered from anywhere else, so removing it has to be a separate, deliberate act. Troubleshooting has the paths.

Linux

Requirements

Download

  1. Download RungTerminal-linux-x86_64.tar.gz.
  2. Download SHA256SUMS.txt next to it if you want to verify the archive.

In the folder holding both files, run sha256sum --ignore-missing -c SHA256SUMS.txt. It must print OK for the archive. If it does not, delete the file - do not unpack it.

Install

Unpack the archive and run the script inside it:

  1. tar -xzf RungTerminal-linux-x86_64.tar.gz
  2. cd RungTerminal-linux-x86_64
  3. ./install.sh

The script refuses to run as root and writes nothing outside your home directory. It puts the program in ~/.local/share/rungterminal, adds a rungterminal command in ~/.local/bin, adds a menu entry, and records where it installed so the terminal can update itself later.

Before it copies anything it checks that the libraries the program needs are on the machine. The one that matters is the Vulkan loader: it is opened at runtime rather than linked, so without it the terminal would start and disappear without ever showing a window. If it is missing, the script stops and prints the package name for your distribution instead.

There is no .deb and no .rpm, deliberately. Either would be a package we could not test on every distribution that would accept it.

Where your data is kept

Everything is local, under your home directory:

Removing the program does not remove either.

Updating

The same as on Windows: releases arrive quietly in the background and are put in place the next time you start the terminal, never while it is running. The download is one compressed archive of about 22 MB, and it is checked against a signature from the release key before anything is unpacked from it.

Nothing is installed system-wide, so no update ever asks for a password.

To turn it off, open Settings and set Keep this terminal up to date to Off. To update by hand after that, download the new archive and run ./install.sh again - it replaces the installed copy in place.

Uninstalling

Run ~/.local/share/rungterminal/uninstall.sh.

It removes the program, the menu entry and the command, and refuses to run while the terminal is still open.

Your vault, settings and market cache are deliberately left behind. A wallet vault cannot be recovered from anywhere else, so removing it has to be a separate, deliberate act. Troubleshooting has the paths.
